Whith that parameter you can import PNG files, it has no effect on mails you receive.

Update: I just tested with the final version of IBM Lotus Notes 8 to see if the enhancement request to support PNG images was implemented: It isn't.
Since asking everybody affected to open a PMR and ask to ad an additional customer report to SPR PBAO65AKFU to let IBM know that customers are requesting this feature, no customer (no joke, not a single customer) contacted IBM regarding this issue.
