If you experience error messages in your servers log like the following, and you are running Domino 6.5.2 you should contact IBM Lotus Support to request a hotfix for this problem (as I did).

Error appending message originator item to note; Field is too large (32K) or View's column & selection formulas are too large
554 Error writing message to safe storage; unable to append local content to message
SMTP Server: Error appending additional fields to received message
