Directory Links not supported in some situations07.08.2006 10:41
I always thought that Directory Links are a basic technology in Lotus Notes/Domino but in the last days I found that using directory links may be unsupported
in some configurations.
In my case I worked with a customer who wanted to use roaming for a large number of users. He agreed to use the standard roaming directory which defaults to roaming
. For performance reasons we decided to place the roaming data on a separate disk so we linked roaming
to a directory on the other disk.
We soon found that we could no longer upgrade users to roaming users because the Admin Client failed with the error File does not exist on remote server
A PMR was opened and the analyst soon found SPR SHEZ6Q9HTK. The bad news is that this SPR is currently on the status unsupported configuration.
I usually understand why some problems could not be fixed or are declared as unsupported configuration, but please can anybody tell me why this is an unsupported configuration (and I do not accept because it has not been tested, it is unsupported

Lotus Notes 7 crashes with error Microsoft Visual C++13.01.2006 15:04
I had some of these ugly crashes which do not even invoke NSD. You can just click OK and have to kill ntaskldr.exe manually.
This problem is due to the fact that one file is being installed into the wrong directory. You can move the file dt_socket.dll from NOTESPROGDIR\jvm\bin to NOTESPROGDIR. That fixed the problem for me where the Notes Client was crashing in a view where an image resource for a view action was missing.

Menubar and Toolbar disapearing in Windows Explorer27.12.2005 18:56
I had the problem that the toolbar and the menubar disapeared in the Windows Explorer. Thanks to WinTotal
I managed to repair my Explorer. The trick was to delete the key ITBarLayout
from the registry-key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\Explorer

Comma in filename or directory name not working with Lotus Notes22.12.2005 15:23
Give that a try: Create a database copy and use a comma in the filename. For example, make a new copy of your names.nsf and name it names_for_PMR_12345,999,618.nsf. This will not work neither in Notes 6.5.x nor in Notes 7.0.x. There is SPR RSCR5V6BBG for that problem but nobody else did open a PMR for that problem yet so it is unlikely to be fixed ever.

Uploading more than one file at the same time15.11.2004 16:47
I was working on an option to upload photos to the ONPD database. While doing some tests I ran into a problem with uploading more than one file at once using the file upload control. This works just for the first file, the others will fail.
All Domino Servers running on UNIX operating systems (Linux, AIX, ...) are affected. This is a bug which is fixed in 6.5.4, SPR THTO63TR3Y.

SMTPMaxforRecipients does not work10.11.2004 11:33
Just for the records. The IBM Redbook "Lotus Domino 6 spam survival Guide" does recommend to use SMTPMaxforRecipients in the notes.ini to reduce the effectiveness of harvesting email addresses. Chapter 4.5.2 in: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg246930.pdf
This parameter does not seem to work, neither in 5.x nor in 6.x. The problem is known as SPR TMEN62PF8B if you like to request a fix.

Problem in Domino 6.5.2 inbound SMTP code05.08.2004 23:35
If you experience error messages in your servers log like the following, and you are running Domino 6.5.2 you should contact IBM Lotus Support to request a hotfix for this problem (as I did).
Error appending message originator item to note; Field is too large (32K) or View's column & selection formulas are too large
554 Error writing message to safe storage; unable to append local content to message
SMTP Server: Error appending additional fields to received message

Database properties set through LotusScript in R5 are lost when the property box is opened and closed in R6.28.06.2004 15:10
Database properties which have been
set through LotusScript executed on an R5 client are lost if the database
property box is opened and closed on an R6 client. This applies to cases
where the database resides on an R5 server.

Is this a compiler bug in Lotus Notes 6?28.05.2004 18:56
I came along a very strange problem
with the Lotus Notes 6 compiler today. Just to save time I tried to use
1024 * 1024 instead of 1048576. The Lotus Notes Designer Client refused
to save this with error "overflow". When using a variable containing
1024 instead of using the number itself there seems to be no problem. Weird!
Sub Click(Source As Button)
number As Double
a As Double
' just to proof that Long is big enough
'next line will work fine
= a * 1024
' this would not work, why??
' number = 1024 * 1024

Domino 6.5.x Router Performance, Hang or Crashes Delivering Messages to Mail File Using Block Sender Rule24.03.2004 16:48
IBM introduced Mail Rules in Lotus Notes
5.x. While this feature was working quite well an enhancement of these
rules in ND6 causes some troubles. IBM asks his customers running Notes
6.5.0 and 6.5.1 to update the mailtemplates. See this
Technote for details.

Notes Document Shortcuts crashing Windows Explorer02.12.2003 22:30
Another Bug that has everything it needs to come onto my personal favorites list. Read on and decide by your own:
In Lotus Notes 6 you can "Drag and Drop" a document from any view or folder onto your Windows Desktop or any folder on your harddisk. Notes automatically creates a Document Shortcut which is in fact a file with the extionsion .shb which are marked by registry entries as special objects like files with extionsion .lnk.
Try to create such a Document Shortcut and cut it from your Desktop to paste it into any folder - this will crash your Windows Explorer.
If you experience the same problem please report it to IBM Lotus Support, they are looking for reproduceable scenarios to get this fixed in a later release.

Remove a group from all your databases ACL?18.11.2003 07:23
I found that there is an unexpected but fast way to remove a group from every databases ACL in your Lotus Notes Domain. Just rename a group using the appropriate action in your Domino Directory and oops, as you didn't want to do that, just enter the old name of the group again. Everybody would expect AdminP to ignore this request as source and target name are the same but in fact AdminP removes the group!!!!
This Problem has been reported to Lotus Support and is fixed in Lotus Domino 6.5.

Translation Problem in Lotus Notes Client15.11.2003 16:44
I heard about a strange Problem in the
Lotus Notes Client which should exist in all localized Versions beginning
with 6.0 up to version 6.5. As you can see on the screenshot of a repeating
calendar entry the weekdays are displayed in english language instead of
I heard rumors that customers, who are contacting the software vendor,
would get help but I can't go into detail here.
